David Critchlow, age 50, began learning and working with
reptiles as a young boy. In the early 90s, David began to get
involved collecting unwanted reptiles and joined The Michigan
Society of Herpetologist (MSH). David then discovered the need
and demand to care for unwanted, neglected and confiscated
crocodilians. With this demand in mind, a vision to create a
sanctuary began to take shape.  In 2003, David began looking
for a permanent location to build the sanctuary and zoological
park somewhere in southern Michigan. Knowing the process of
building a sanctuary could take several years, David began
making formal contacts with experts in the field of Crocodilian
Management. To acquire as much knowledge as possible, he
became a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums
(AZA), and through this association he has attended a program
on Crocodilian Biology and Captive Management at the St.
Augustine Alligator Farm in Florida.  Through his leadership,
David continues to stay on top of the latest research and
husbandry techniques. He supports staff members in attending
classes and participating in programs related to the care and
management of reptiles and amphibians.
